medinfo2001 news update — Professor Susan Greenfield to be keynote speaker
Professor Susan Greenfield, CBE, voted The Observer newspaper's Woman of
the Year 2000, will give the opening plenary presentation at medinfo2001, to be held at ExCel Congress Centre, London, on
2–5 September 2001.
Professor Greenfield, Director of the Royal Institution of Great Britain
and Professor of Pharmacology, University of Oxford, leads a multidisciplinary group studying neurodegenerative disorders. At medinfo2001she will explore the
Brain of the Future through the possibilities and
implications posed by neuroscientific advances for the coming century, including mapping of the human genome.
Other recent developments in preparation for
medinfo2001
The World Bank, through infoDev, its Information for Development
Programme, and its Conference Scholarship Fund, is funding bursaries for attendance by delegates from poorer developing countries who would
otherwise not be able to attend.

ExCel, the fully operational 'smart building', has recognised
medinfo2001 as significant in its busy schedule of world-class events.
Accommodation and travel arrangements and block allocations are

Considerable interest in medinfo2001 is being generated as far afield
as Australia, Japan, Czech Republic, Brazil, Romania, Ukraine, South Africa, and within the European Commission.
About medinfo
medinfo2001 is the Tenth World Congress on Medical Informatics. This is
the first time that the International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA) has brought its Congress to London or the UK.
It will be held at the ExCel Congress Centre, London, on
2–5 September 2001 and has the theme Towards Global Health: The Informatics Route to
Knowledge. It will contain both a twelve-stream scientific programme and an integral
exhibition. The exhibition will feature vendor solutions, multinational programme displays and national showcases.
