ICAT2002:
International Conference on Assistive Technology
Karl Henry Haglund, Head of the EU’s
Information Society Unit for Applications for Persons with Special Needs,
including the Disabled and the Elderly will open ICAT2002 — a two-day
conference and exhibition to be held in Derby, England, 24–25 April.
The event has been organised to promote the
current and future relevance of information and communications
technologies in empowering the disabled citizen. With a substantial
content from several European countries, presentations and breakout
sessions cover accessibility, virtual reality, intelligent systems and
social consequences. 2003 is the European Year of the Disabled Citizen,
for which this event is a curtain raiser, and expected to be a landmark in
technological and service developments for people with disabilities.
Users of assistive technologies; IT
consultants and technologists; designers, manufacturers and suppliers; and
anyone working with, or employing, people with disabilities are encouraged
to participate.
The exhibition will afford the opportunity
to gain first-hand knowledge and hands-on experience of current solutions
to the physical and sensory barriers presented to those with impairments.
Guidance on how to obtain assistive technologies, for private, educational
or employment uses will also be available.
The event is organised by the Disability
Group of the British Computer Society. |
