LinuxIT responds to IT skills shortage with new LPI training initiative

From LinuxIT

LinuxIT, the largest Linux company providing independent systems integration and professional services in the UK, today announced that it has launched a focused initiative aimed at delivering more Linux Professional Institute (LPI) training courses and certifications to the market.

Globally, over 70,000 LPI certification exams have been delivered since 2000. The LPI Linux certification is both vendor-independent and distribution-neutral, and prepares trainees to take on globally defined jobs as Linux specialists. However, more needs to be done.

With its new initiative, LinuxIT reacts to the extensively proclaimed problem of Linux skills shortages in the UK. The adoption of Linux, as the world's fastest growing Operating System, could outrun the supply of skilled professionals,
which in turn is in danger of slowing down the current momentum of Linux.

Adrian Thomasset, Training Manager at LinuxIT said: "We are finding that the Linux skills shortages don't just affect a few industries. We see the problem manifest across all vertical markets, from education and government institutions
to finance and manufacturing. Many companies still find it difficult to secure human resources necessary to handle Linux development and installation. LinuxIT is reacting to this issue by aggressively expanding and driving forward its LPI
Training Programme. Through the new initiative, our aim is to certify at least another 200 trainees by the end of this year."

Despite the evident shortfall in Linux skills, LinuxIT continues to celebrate the relative success of its LPI training program The company delivered more LPI
certifications to the UK market last year than any other training provider.

In order to encourage more companies and individuals to take the Linux certification courses, LinuxIT launched the 'Two for One' initiative, whereby two seats on any LPI training courses will be charged at the cost of only one.

LPI is an independent, non-profit corporation that has evolved out of the Linux community focusing solely on setting certification standards.
