LMD Competition 2002–3
The Special Libraries Association (SLA),
Leadership and Management Division (LMD) announces an international paper
competition.
Prize for winner
One person will be selected to win the following:
- a two-year membership in SLA, with
membership in the LMD Division, a membership in the International
Information Exchange (KIIE) Caucus, and in an SLA Chapter
- publication of your paper
- a travel grant to attend the SLA June
2003 Conference in New York City, NY, USA
- presentation of your paper at an LMD
session
Eligibility
A special librarian who is from and
currently working in a developing country (a country with an average
personal income of US$5185 or less), as defined by the World Bank's Countries

Project
The theme of the paper, written in English
in 1000 to 3000 words, is: 'The application of leadership and management
principles and strategies to a library, information service, information
product, or knowledge service in which I have been involved.'
Criteria for judging
- Sound knowledge of these principles
applied to your own experience in your country, or in other developing
countries in which you have worked or are working with colleagues
- innovative approaches that have worked
- communication techniques and strategies
that have worked
- inclusion of Lessons learned, good and
bad
You will not be judged on the perfection of
your use of English. In the case of multiple authors, the first author
will be awarded the prize for the winner.
Opportunities for non-winners
Some of the papers will be selected and
offered to SLA for publication and others will be offered to science and
technology libraries and the LMD Library Management Quarterly for
publication. Head of this initiative is Wei Wei, Computer Science
Librarian, University of California Santa Cruz.

The Committee will announce the winner by
April 1, 2003.
