Upgrade of the Telemedicine Information Service

3 February 2004. The service was relaunched as the Telemedicine and E-health Information Service in January 2004. Please see the the new announcement for details of the new website.

17 August 2001.

From Jim Briggs, UK TIS

The UK Telemedicine Information Service is now even better!

The website, operated by the University of Portsmouth in conjunction with the British Library and sponsored by the four UK health departments, has moved to a new server. This means that searching the database will now be even quicker. Also access by NHSnet users should now be unrestricted by the NHSnet firewall.

The address of the home page of website has not changed, though if you have any bookmarks to specific entries within the database, you may need to relink some of those.

We have expanded our definition of 'projects' to include all telemedicine activities, not just pilot studies, including where telemedicine is now playing a full part in delivering a healthcare service. If your telemedicine activity is not recorded in the database, or if any of the details have changed, please see the advice on submitting information on the website.

As well as projects, we maintain information on:

  • companies involved in telemedicine
  • people in UK telemedicine, and
  • resources such as publications and equipment.

Note that our publications database is not intended to replicate other bibliographic databases, but is primarily for unpublished or hard to otherwise locate resources. We are particularly keen to improve the quality of the information held in the 'equipment' part of the database, but can only do so with the help of suppliers and users.

Email us at ndtm@port.ac.uk  if you have anything to contribute in any of these areas.

Contributions, updates and suggestions always welcomed.
