Casemix Programme
The Casemix and Classification Development
Programme is part of the NHS Information Authority, which was established
following the NHS Information Strategy, Information for Health launched in
1998. The Authority has been established to replace the existing
Information Management Group of the NHS Executive (www.nhsia.nhs.uk/def/home.asp
).
The Authority will provide a more open,
accessible and inclusive environment in which to deliver on the Prime
Ministers commitment to "Harness the information revolution and use
it to benefit patients."
The Casemix and Classifications Development
Programme is responsible for the development of Casemix Groupings for use
by the NHS. We also provide support services such as a Helpdesk and an
Advisory and Analysis Service. The Casemix Groupings developed by our
office, aim to categorise both the populations need for healthcare using
condition based groups called Health Benefit Groups and the interventions
provided to meet that need, using activity based groups called Healthcare
Resource Groups.
The National Health Service Information
Authority is currently comprised of 7core programmes:
- Access to Information
- Knowledge Management
- Information for Organisations and
Business
- Population Health and Service Management
Information
- Information for Personal Health
- National Health Informatics Development
- Standards and Services Support Programme
Within the Department of Health an
Information Policy Unit has been established. This unit will co-ordinate
and commission programmes of work via The Authority (www.doh.gov.uk/ipu/
).
The work of the Casemix and Classifications
Development Programme, (developing and implementing casemix
classifications, tools and services) forms part of the Population and
Health Service Management Information
(PHSMI) delivery area of the NHSIA.
This programme brings together a range of
sub-programmes dealing with clinical classifications, information
standards, central information requirements, data modelling and analytical
services. PHSMI has established robust mechanisms for ensuring the
co-ordination of the work programme and the development of robust support
from a wide range of clinical and professional associations. |
