European
healthcare businesses bought by McKessonHBOC
Three healthcare ICT companies in Europe have been taken over by
McKessonHBOC.
The company has bought ICL's two healthcare IT businesses in the
Netherlands: SIAC (based at Maarssen; customers include 18 acute hospitals
and 15 psychiatric units) and VPI Gezondheidszorg (based at Waardenburg;
120 customers including teaching hospitals and large regional care
centres).
McKessonHBOC has also bought Cap Gemini's healthcare business in
France. Division lnformatique Hospitaii6re(HITD), which has 120
staff and is primarily a software house developing hospital.
administration and finance applications for large public hospitals, was
part of the French Ministry of Health before Cap Gemini bought it in 1991.
McKessonHBOC's UK Managing Director and European Vice-President Bryan
Wrighton said he believes the economic climate is now right for expansion
in Europe. "The world-wide pressures to contain healthcare costs are
creating major opportunities for advanced technology solutions. Markets
that were previously closed to outsiders are now starting to open because
of a convergence in healthcare practices and moves to electronic
healthcare records", he said.
