RCSEd Diploma and Certificate Course in Medical Informatics

The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in partnership with The Hong Kong Academy of Medicine is pleased to offer a new Diploma and Certificate Course in Medical Informatics, beginning in October 2000. Pricing details and payment options are now available and may be accessed through the menu. The Diploma in Medical Informatics (DMI RCSEd) is a Post-Graduate Diploma, and may be taken part-time over two to five years depending on each student. The course has been awarded recognition for CME. However, a maximum of 15 credits may be obtained for each year of study up to and including the final year. Students who choose to complete the course in a shorter period of time than two years may only receive up to the maximum number of credits for each year of study (pro-rata for part years). As an alternative to the full Diploma course, students will be able to undertake selected parts of the course (with some compulsory core components) to gain a Certificate in Medical Informatics. The diploma course is structured in 12 Modules, and the majority of the teaching material will be delivered in the form of online, distance learning packages. However, the course will include one weekend Workshop at the RCSEd and one week of intensive Modular teaching at the RCSEd.

Intended Audience: The course is aimed at all healthcare professionals who wish to gain a greater insight into, and understanding of, information management in healthcare. It is envisaged that this course will appeal to medical, dental, nursing and management professionals.

Entry Qualifications: This is a postgraduate Diploma course. Registrants would normally be expected to hold a University Degree qualification, Nursing Diploma or equivalent. Only in exceptional cases will this requirement be waived. Entry to the course will only be considered after successful completion of a pre-course competency assessment in basic computer skills.
