United States and European Union Take Another Step Toward a National Privacy

An agreement between the United States and the European Union that will permit U.S. companies to receive the personal data of individuals in the European Union takes effect Nov. 1, 2000. It brings a national privacy policy to the United States through the back door of an international compact protecting the privacy of Europeans.
