Objectives
CEN's aims, expressed in its Statutes,
are to draw up voluntary European Standards and promote corresponding
conformity of products and services in areas other than electrotechnical
and telecommunications.
CEN also produces a number of other
standards-related products.
CEN works in conjunction with other
private or public organizations, representing European and worldwide
interests. In particular, it has an agreement for technical cooperation
( the Vienna Agreement) with the International
Organization for Standardization (ISO) .
Structure
CEN consists of its National Members -
the national standards organizations of the EU and EFTA countries, and
of the Czech Republic - and its Associates. CEN has many links with
important Affiliates and Corresponding Organizations.
It is governed by the General Assembly of
its Members, a Management Committee and an Administrative Board.
The Technical Board controls the
standards programme and maintains the correct liaisons with other
organizations, notably: the European Commission and EFTA Secretariat;
CENELEC - the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization
and ETSI - the European Telecommunications Standards Institute; and
Associated bodies.
