After starting in nursing in the early 1980's, I worked in clinical
nursing, mainly in coronary and cardiac care, before moving into nurse education, where I was involved in teaching and curriculum development
at pre- and post-registration levels. My interest and experience in the use of computers within healthcare and education, and from that
involvement within informatics, started while working in coronary care nursing.
My main areas of interest and expertise are in:
- the development and delivery of online education;
- the use of computer-medicated communications among nurses and other
health professionals;
- the development of web-based electronic publishing, including new
models of interaction and peer review;
- the use of electronic networks for research collaboration;
- developing quality assurance criteria and mechanisms for health-related information on the web; the patient perspective in such
developments;
- the nature and definition of nursing informatics.
Further information on my activities, affiliations, publications etc. are in my
online biography and CV at:
