Centre for Measurement and Information in Medicine (MIM Centre)

The MIM Centre aspires:

  • to be a centre of excellence specialising in research, education and training, and consultancy at the leading edge of medical and health informatics
  • to be an accepted leader in the application of medical and health informatics in medicine, health care and the related industries
  • to promote medical and health informatics and application through publications, education and training

Activities include:

  • Applied and contract research
  • Research training and postgraduate education
  • Short course provision for clinicians, scientists and managers
  • Consultancy for health care provider institutions and industry
  • The focus of the activities of the MIM Centre is Medical and Health Informatics

Disciplines concerned with the theory and practice of information technology in the:

Acquisition, processing, interpretation and dissemination of Clinical and Health Care Data in patient care, clinical research, clinical education and health management

The tools and methods used by the MIM Centre in this activity include:

  • systems analysis
  • modelling
  • measurement and instrumentation
  • advanced computational methods
  • knowledge-based techniques

Linkage

The MIM Centre carries out its activities, working in very close co-operation with leading hospitals and other clinical and health-related institutions in the UK, including:

  • United Medical and Dental School of Guy's and St. Thomas' Hospitals (UMDS) (formal co-operative agreement for research and education in Medical Informatics)
  • Royal Brompton National Heart and Lung Hospital
  • Mayday University Hospital
  • King's College Hospital
  • St Bartholomew's Hospital
  • John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford

International collaboration includes joint research and educational ventures with:

  • Denmark - Aalborg University
  • Finland - National Medical Engineering Lab, Tampere
  • Greece - Ergo S.A.; University of Athens
  • Hungary - Semmelweis Medical University, Budapest
  • Italy - University of Perugia; University of Padova
