GSF - National Research Center
for Environment and Health 
The GSF is managed as a limited company. Partners
are the Federal Minister of Education, Science,
Research and Technology and the State of Bavaria.
The annual budget is about 200 Mio. DM, the total
number of staff is around 1600. The GSF is located on a 50
hectare site in the north of Munich. It also has
institutes in Munich and a Research Salt Mine,
Asse in Niedersachsen near Wolfenbüttel. The GSF
is a member of the Hermann von Helmholtz
Association of German Research Centers (HGF).
The aim of the
research performed in the GSF is on the one hand
to help solve public problems related to
maintaining an intact environment, and on the
other hand to improve the health care of the
population.
Research is
focused on activities related to the protection
of man and his environment from harmful effects
resulting from radiation and chemicals, as well
as the utilisation of scientific and technical knowledge to improve environmental protection and
health care.

Das Forschungs-
und Entwicklungsprogramm des GSF -
Forschungszentrums für Umwelt und Gesundheit
dient der Lösung öffentlicher Aufgaben im
Bereich der Umwelt- und Gesundheitsforschung.
Die Arbeiten
konzentrieren sich auf den Schutz des Menschen
und seiner Umwelt vor schädigenden Einflüssen
sowie auf die Nutzbarmachung
naturwissenschaftlich-technischer Erkenntnisse
für die Verbesserung des Umweltschutzes und der
Gesundheitsversorgung.
